The Choral Arts Society of Davidson (North Carolina) is a community-based vocal ensemble made up of 80-100 singers, and is a member of the Davidson College Choirs sponsored by the Music Department of Davidson College. CASD meets during the academic year every Tuesday night from 6:30 to 9:00 PM in
the choir room in the Sloan Music Center (323 Concord Road) on the Davidson College campus. CASD performs four concerts annually, including fall and spring concerts, annual performances of our sold out Holiday Gala and Messiah Sing-along. Each year CASD collaborates with the college's Pro Arte Orchestra (includes members of the Charlotte Symphony) and with other professional organizations such as the North Carolina Baroque Orchestra. CASD also joins with the Davidson College Choirs to perform an end-of-season masterwork.
The Duke Family Performance Hall is the primary venue for the Choral Arts Society's performances. The state-of-the-artfacility includes seating for over 600 audience members, an electro-pneumatic orchestra pit and surrounding orchestra shell. CASD also performs in the resonant Davidson College Presbyterian Church
for a cappella performances or those requiring the use of a pipe organ. The Choral Arts Society of Davidson is committed to excellence in performance and aritistry, open by audition to members of the Davidson community and surrounding areas. Recent performances include Stravinsky's Symphony of Psalms, Bernstein's Chichester Psalms, Rachmaninoff's All-Night Vigil, Brahm's Requiem, Bach's Mass in B minor, Vaughan Williams' A Sea Symphony, Jenkins' Armed Man: A Mass for Peace, Dan Forrest's Jubilate Deo & Requiem for the Living, Boito's Prologue from Mefistofele, and Walton's Belshazzar's Feast.
